TGP supports Edmonton’s Food Bank.
In a heartwarming display of community spirit, employees from TGP Foodservice, Independent Retail, and the Wholesale Market came together last week to lend a helping hand at Edmonton’s largest food bank. The initiative, organized by Cheryl Robertson, saw 16 staff members volunteering their time and energy to support people in need.
TGP has long been known for its commitment to giving back to the community. The Giving Tree is part of TGPs cherished holiday tradition to collect monetary donations from November 13 to December 2, for a worthy cause selected by each individual store. On December 2, for Giving Tuesday, TGP matched every donation made at each store, resulting in a total of over $29,000. Over the past seven years, TGP stores and their customers have raised more than $130,000 through The Giving Tree program, with TGP proudly matching donations to further support those in need.
At this recent effort, staff members sorted food donations and packed food boxes for over 40,000 people in the community facing food insecurity this holiday season.
For many employees, the day offered more than just an opportunity to give back. It was also a chance to connect with their community in meaningful ways.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to see the immediate impact we can have,” said Cheryl Robertson, sales representative, TGP. “Being able to contribute directly to our community makes all the difference.”
Last week’s volunteering event is just one of many initiatives TGP has planned. The Food Hamper Program is a staple at every TGP store. Customers can purchase a $10 food hamper of essential items that helps support local families in need throughout the year.
As the holiday season approaches, initiatives like these highlight the power of community and the importance of lending a hand to those in need. For TGP employees, the experience was not only impactful but deeply fulfilling.
